About the role

As a Customer Engineer in Applied Materials' International Development Program, you will act as the primary liaison with strategic semiconductor customers in Europe. The role combines classroom training, a 12‑month field assignment in Taiwan, and hands‑on experience with cutting‑edge semiconductor equipment.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and troubleshoot Applied Materials semiconductor equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic and gas systems.
  • Support equipment installations, system start‑ups and hardware/process start‑up activities.
  • Apply diagnostic techniques and structured troubleshooting methodologies.
  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Follow safety, quality and operational procedures, and use knowledge‑management systems.
  • Participate in continuous‑improvement initiatives to increase equipment uptime.

Required profile

  • Associate, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a technical field (Mechatronics, Engineering, etc.) or equivalent qualification.
  • 0‑3 years of experience in field service, maintenance, installation engineering or related areas.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills with mechanical aptitude (pneumatics, hydraulics, vacuum, thermodynamics).
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools and basic test equipment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Valid work authorization for Germany, ability to return after Taiwan assignment, and a driver’s licence.
