Data Engineer – Build Scalable Data Pipelines

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join Zalando’s Customer Insights Engineering team. You will design, scale and maintain end‑to‑end data solutions that turn raw data into actionable insights for millions of customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build curated data products and reusable data models for analytics across Zalando.
• Develop infrastructure and tooling that enable reliable, automated data pipelines.
• Implement observability, health checks and automated reliability tooling for core data systems.
• Establish engineering best practices, modular architecture and speed‑to‑insight frameworks.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, data and security teams to ensure secure, compliant, production‑grade data systems.

Required profile

• 3+ years of data engineering experience with Python and Apache Spark.
• Strong expertise in writing, profiling and optimizing complex SQL queries.
• Solid background in data modeling and designing scalable end‑to‑end data architectures.
• Hands‑on experience with AWS, Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog) and cost‑optimization.
• Proven ability to deploy production systems using Apache Airflow and CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
