Design Engineer

About the role

Join Westinghouse's mechanical design team in Mannheim to develop specialized, often remotely operated, equipment used for repair processes on nuclear power plant components. You will be involved in the full lifecycle of innovative tools and systems, from concept design through testing, qualification, and field deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and design concepts and equipment for the repair of key nuclear power plant components.
• Create detailed mechanical designs and technical solutions for complex environments.
• Support development, testing, and qualification of new equipment, including customer reviews and on‑site activities.
• Contribute to First‑Of‑A‑Kind (FOAK) projects, driving products from prototype to maturity.
• Prepare comprehensive project documentation such as work instructions, development programs, test reports, and bills of materials.
• Provide ongoing support for existing products, including troubleshooting, spare‑parts coordination, and technician training.
• Collaborate across departments, sites, and international teams, fostering cross‑country cooperation.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in development, design, and testing of specialized electromechanical equipment.
• Fluent German (native or C2 level) and proficient English (minimum B1, preferably B2).
• Team‑oriented with strong problem‑solving mindset and clear communication.

Required skills

• Proficient use of CAD design software, preferably Creo.
• Mechanical design and electromechanical equipment development.
• Knowledge of machining/chip‑removal processes (optional).
• Knowledge of hydraulics (optional).
• Knowledge of welded structure design (optional).
