Electronics Engineer – Quantum Computing

About the role

Universal Quantum is developing quantum computers and seeks an experienced Electronics Engineer to lead the design and realisation of large‑scale electronic control systems. You will work closely with mechanical, software and physics teams to deliver state‑of‑the‑art hardware for quantum technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and test analogue and digital electronic products for quantum computers.
• Develop schematics and PCB layouts using industry‑standard CAD tools (e.g., Altium).
• Document circuit designs, verification procedures and test results.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate electronics with mechanical, software and quantum hardware.
• Plan project schedules, report progress, manage risks and support fast‑turnaround proof‑of‑concept work.
• Maintain knowledge of firmware and software that control quantum systems.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of high‑performance electronics design experience (digital, analogue, embedded).
• Degree (BEng/BSc) in Electronics Engineering or related field (minimum 2.1).
• Strong knowledge of electronics circuit theory, EM field theory and noise analysis.
• Proven ability to work with suppliers, contractors and produce thorough documentation.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team‑oriented mindset.

Required skills

• PCB schematic and layout design (Altium or similar ECAD).
• Use of spectrum analysers, oscilloscopes and vector network analysers.
• FPGA development and real‑time embedded software engineering.
• HDL programming and high‑level software integration.
• Wire‑harness design and mechanical/thermal awareness.
• Signal integrity, high‑speed digital and EMC considerations (nice‑to‑have).
