Field Application Engineer

About the role

The Field Application Engineer (FAE) works hands‑on with prototype and lab vehicles to investigate complex cross‑subsystem issues, capture diagnostic data and provide on‑site integration support. Based in Berlin, the role blends hardware diagnostics with software analysis to deliver clear findings for development teams.

Key responsibilities

• Perform hands‑on diagnostics on prototype vehicles, capturing network traces (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) and real‑time logs from ECUs and zonal controllers.
• Reproduce, characterize and isolate cross‑subsystem issues at the vehicle system level.
• Set up and operate measurement and diagnostic equipment to gather ground‑truth data directly from the vehicle.
• Run first‑pass triage of field‑reported symptoms to differentiate software defects from hardware or environmental problems.
• Document findings, logs and reproduction steps in clear hand‑off reports for development teams.
• Travel to partner sites domestically and internationally to provide on‑site diagnostics and integration support.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent hands‑on experience.
• Foundational understanding of automotive network protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet) with willingness to deepen knowledge quickly.
• Fluency in English.

Required skills

• Experience with bus‑monitoring and diagnostic tools such as Vector CANalyzer or PCAN.
• Scripting or programming ability in Python and/or C/C++ for log processing and data capture.
• Basic knowledge of embedded systems and operating systems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD environments and version control using Git.
