Flyways & Action Plan Consultant (CMS Avian & Aquatic)

About the role

This part‑time consultancy supports the CMS Avian and Aquatic teams in delivering an integrated inception package, operationalising single‑species action plans and producing high‑quality reporting. The assignment lasts 24 months and can be performed from home or UN premises in Bonn.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and obtain approval for an inception package that includes workplan, stakeholder engagement plan, progress‑tracking framework and risk management approach.
• Provide follow‑up support to the Flyways Working Group, delivering planning materials, minutes, action trackers and decision‑ready briefs.
• Operationalise Single Species Action Plans for selected species (e.g., Christmas Island frigatebird, far eastern curlew, loggerhead turtle, Pacific whales and dolphins) by producing implementation roadmaps, progress‑tracking tools and stakeholder coordination products.
• Prepare mid‑term and final consolidated reports and presentations that synthesize progress, gaps, risks and recommendations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in environmental policy, migratory species conservation or related fields.
• Strong project management and stakeholder coordination skills.
• Ability to produce clear, decision‑oriented documentation for intergovernmental bodies.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of additional UN languages is a plus.
