Freelance Site Manager – Data Centre (Munich)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Freelance Site Manager to lead on‑site operations for a major data centre project in Munich. The role covers the construction phase through to commissioning support and handover, ensuring safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all on‑site construction activities, guaranteeing safety, timeliness and compliance with specifications.
• Coordinate subcontractors, trades and suppliers to maintain smooth workflow.
• Serve as the primary on‑site contact for project managers, engineers and stakeholders.
• Monitor progress against programme schedules and raise any delays or risks.
• Enforce HSE regulations, site safety procedures and German construction standards.
• Conduct site inspections, quality checks and ensure works meet required standards.
• Maintain site documentation such as permits, daily reports, RAMS and progress updates.
• Support logistics planning, material deliveries and site sequencing.
• Resolve on‑site issues promptly to keep the project on track.
• Collaborate with commissioning teams to prepare systems for testing and handover.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Site Manager on data centre, pharmaceutical or other mission‑critical projects.
• Strong understanding of construction processes, especially within M&E or critical infrastructure.
• Experience managing multiple subcontractors and complex site activities.
• Solid knowledge of health & safety regulations (HSE) and German construction compliance.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and construction plans.
• Excellent leadership, organisational and problem‑solving abilities.
• Fluent English; German is highly advantageous.
• Availability for a 12–15 month freelance assignment.
