Government Affairs Director – Germany

About the role

The Government Affairs Director – Germany will lead the company’s public policy, government relations and regulatory strategy across Germany and the broader European market. Reporting to senior leadership, you will shape a favourable regulatory environment, support compliant business growth, and act as the primary liaison with federal and state authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive government affairs and lobbying strategy to secure market access and regulatory stability.
• Maintain long‑term relationships with ministries, parliamentarians, regulators, industry associations and NGOs.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, participate in consultations, and advocate for company positions.
• Provide senior leadership with political intelligence, risk assessments and strategic advice.
• Lead policy issue and crisis management, coordinating cross‑functional responses.
• Advise product and business teams on German product safety, consumer protection and compliance requirements.
• Facilitate communication between German regulators and the China‑based headquarters to ensure cross‑border regulatory alignment.
• Travel domestically (30‑40%) to engage with federal and state stakeholders.

Required profile

• Extensive lobbying experience in Germany with established political networks.
• Deep knowledge of regulated sectors, especially product safety and consumer protection.
• Proven ability to influence policy at federal and state levels.
• Strong analytical skills and experience delivering strategic policy advice.
• Fluency in German and English.
