HR Manager – Berlin (German & English)

About the role
We are expanding our presence in Germany with a new Berlin office and need an HR Manager to be the primary HR contact on the ground. Reporting to the global HR team in London, you will manage the full employee lifecycle and ensure compliance with German employment law.
Key responsibilities
- Manage employee relations matters in Germany, handling day‑to‑day HR queries and formal cases in line with German employment law and works council requirements.
- Ensure HR documentation, employment contracts and policies are accurate, compliant and scalable.
- Collaborate with the global HR team to align processes and maintain consistent standards across locations.
- Lead end‑to‑end recruitment for the Berlin office together with the Office & Recruitment Coordinator and hiring managers.
- Support onboarding of new hires, covering organisational, cultural, system and compliance elements.
- Manage off‑boarding, including documentation, exit procedures and knowledge transfer.
- Contribute to compensation benchmarking, benefits review and wellbeing initiatives for the German market.
- Assist with office management activities in coordination with the Office & Recruitment Coordinator.
Required profile
- Fluent in German and English (written and spoken) at a professional level.
- Solid knowledge of German employment law, including the Works Constitution Act, statutory notice periods, probation, termination and data‑protection regulations.
- Proven experience as a generalist HR professional, preferably in a fast‑growing or international organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in full‑cycle recruitment, either independently or with a recruitment function.
- Experience handling employee‑relations matters with discretion, empathy and sound judgement.
- Ability to manage a varied workload, prioritize effectively and work independently when required.
- Structured, solution‑oriented working style with a practical approach to operational HR topics.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all organisational levels.
- (Desirable) Experience working in a distributed or international HR team.
- (Desirable) Familiarity with HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
- (Desirable) Experience with office management or facilities coordination.
