Independent Junior Group Leader in Practice-led Public Engagement

About the role

The Berlin Hub for Science and Society (BHS2) at Charité seeks an independent Junior Group Leader to develop and steer a practice‑led public engagement research group. This position sits within the Cluster of Excellence ImmunoPreCept and focuses on linking biomedical innovation with societal dialogue.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and lead an autonomous junior research group with a practice‑inspired, empirically grounded agenda.
• Manage and expand BHS2’s visibility as a centre of excellence in public engagement research.
• Supervise doctoral researchers and contribute to graduate training programmes.
• Generate empirical evidence from engagement activities and translate findings into institutional strategies.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners across the Cluster to influence research trajectories, policy discourse, and public trust.

Required profile

• Strong track record of impactful research and practice in science communication and public engagement with research (SCaPE).
• Doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant field such as public health, social science, or biomedical sciences.
• Demonstrated ability to lead research projects and supervise early‑career researchers.
• Excellent academic publication record and experience in interdisciplinary collaboration.
