About the role
Avarda Group is seeking a Junior Legal Counsel to join its Group Legal team in Berlin or Hamburg. You will support the German and Austrian markets and work on a wide range of legal matters across the fintech group, gaining exposure to civil, contract, consumer credit, data privacy, competition and banking law.
Key responsibilities
- Provide day‑to‑day legal advice to internal stakeholders on civil, contract, consumer credit, data privacy, competition and banking regulation.
- Support product and operations teams with legal assessments of new and existing products, including advertising claims and pre‑contractual documentation.
- Conduct legal research and prepare assessments on specific legal questions.
- Monitor regulatory developments in Germany and Austria, analyse impact, and drive implementation projects.
- Maintain and update customer contract documents (T&Cs, price lists, SECCI) in line with regulatory changes.
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts with business partners and service providers; contribute to contract templates and CLM system.
- Handle legal disputes, correspond with courts, lawyers, consumer protection associations and regulators, and coordinate external counsel.
- Collaborate with legal colleagues across European markets on group‑wide projects and deliver internal trainings.
Required profile
- Law degree (First or Second State Exam, LL.B., LL.M. or equivalent) with 1–3 years of experience, or qualified legal professional background with 4+ years in a regulated environment.
- Interest or exposure to consumer credit, payments, banking regulation or fintech.
- Fluent in German and English, both written and spoken.
- Proactive, well‑organised and able to work independently.
Required skills
- Solid legal drafting and analytical abilities.
- Knowledge of European banking/consumer credit/payment services regulation (e.g., CCD II, PSD2, EBA Guidelines) – nice to have.
- Experience with data privacy/GDPR in a corporate setting – nice to have.
- Familiarity with Austrian law, CLM tools or legal‑tech solutions – nice to have.
