Justice and Accountability Director

About the role

NJW Germany, an independent NGO focused on international law, human rights and minority protection, is seeking a Justice and Accountability Director. The role provides strategic leadership for legal and accountability initiatives, working with international mechanisms and civil‑society partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate justice, accountability and strategic litigation programmes.
• Develop projects on international criminal law, human‑rights violations, minority rights and transitional justice.
• Prepare and manage submissions to UN bodies, the European Court of Human Rights, the International Criminal Court and other institutions.
• Oversee legal analysis, documentation, reporting and evidence‑based advocacy.
• Build partnerships with international organisations, academia, legal professionals and civil‑society networks.
• Contribute to institutional development, expert networks, training and capacity‑building.
• Support fundraising, grant development and project implementation with legal expertise.
• Represent NJW Germany in high‑level institutional, academic and international forums.

Required profile

• Law degree from a recognised university and a Master’s in law or a related field.
• At least 15 years of professional legal experience, including strategic litigation and international advocacy.
• Minimum 10 years in civil‑society organisations or international advocacy structures.
• Extensive work on religious or ethnic minority rights (10 + years).
• Proven experience engaging with UN mechanisms, ECtHR, ICC, ICJ or comparable bodies.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in international law, international criminal law, human‑rights law and minority‑rights law.
• Strong background in strategic litigation, legal reporting and institutional engagement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
