Laboratory Infrastructure Technician (m/f/d)

About the role

The Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter seeks a hands‑on Technician to keep its cutting‑edge laboratories operating smoothly. You will be the primary point of contact for the technical infrastructure, ensuring that experimental setups are ready, safe, and well‑maintained.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, service, and monitor laboratory technical systems such as vacuum pumps, vacuum systems, gas supply installations, and cryogenic equipment.
• Install and modify laboratory infrastructure, including connecting pressurised gas cylinders and routing gas, cooling water, and vacuum lines.
• Plan and execute mechanical work: assemble, install, relocate scientific equipment, and build support frames using aluminium extrusion profiles.
• Perform electromechanical tasks such as soldering, crimping, and custom cable/connector assembly.
• Coordinate deliveries, storage, workshop logistics and liaise with external service technicians, facility management, and contractors.
• Provide proactive, hands‑on assistance for daily laboratory operations as an integral part of the research team.

Required profile

• Completed vocational training in a relevant technical trade (e.g., electronics, mechatronics, precision mechanics, plant/HVAC mechanics).
• Experience with laboratory infrastructure, vacuum and cryogenic systems, and mechanical assembly.
• Ability to work independently, follow safety protocols, and collaborate with scientific staff.
