Materials Engineer – Polymers

About the role

Corning is seeking a Materials Engineer specialized in polymers to join its Optical Communications segment in Berlin‑Adlershof. The role will support global materials development for cable applications, driving innovation in polymer science and helping bring new optical solutions to market.

Key responsibilities

• Lead polymer‑based materials development activities for Corning Optical Communications worldwide.
• Conduct research, design experiments, and analyze data to generate new insights for product and process improvement.
• Assist in polymer compound selection and evaluation for cable applications.
• Provide technical guidance to product and project engineers during new product and process development.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams to resolve materials‑related issues.
• Interface with suppliers and procurement to test, qualify, and troubleshoot new materials and analytical equipment.

Required profile

• Degree in Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry or a related field.
• Experience in polymer materials development and characterization.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills applied to engineering challenges.
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams and external suppliers.
