NPI Technician – Prototyping Engineer (m/f/d)

About the role

Join Tesla Engineering Germany in Freiburg as an NPI Technician, where you will drive the creation of innovative power‑electronics prototypes for sustainable energy solutions. You will work hands‑on in a state‑of‑the‑art workshop, collaborating with design and manufacturing engineers to turn concepts into functional hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Perform precise electro‑mechanical assembly and prototyping while keeping the workspace clean and organized.
• Support build processes, execute reworks on components (turning, milling) and prepare documentation for engineering teams.
• Read, interpret, and create technical drawings and documentation, following exact verbal and written instructions.
• Design and adapt tools and fixtures in SolidWorks for prototype builds.
• Update production records to ensure accurate process tracking.
• Maintain NPI pilot lines, adapting to design and manufacturing changes.
• Troubleshoot equipment and processes in collaboration with engineering, quality, and operations.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of hands‑on prototyping/assembly experience for new products.
• Technical training as a mechanic, mechatronics, or similar engineering discipline.
• Strong understanding of electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
• Proficiency operating production machinery via GUIs or programming languages such as G‑code.
• Extensive workshop experience with high manual dexterity and precision.
• Ability to produce clear, accurate, and structured documentation.
• Fluent German and English, both written and spoken.
• Experience with NPI of power‑electronics products or mass production is a plus.
