PhD Student – Logistics Optimization (Human‑Centric)

About the role

Airbus Operations is seeking a PhD student to investigate logistics optimization from a human‑centric perspective. The research will be conducted at the Airbus production site in Hamburg over a 36‑month period, combining combinatorial optimization with human‑focused decision making.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a multi‑objective optimization model that integrates traditional KPIs with quantified human factors.
• Implement and test the model using Answer Set Programming within an interdisciplinary research environment.
• Collaborate with industrial architects and engineers to align the model with real‑world logistics requirements.
• Publish research findings and present results to internal and external stakeholders.

Required profile

• Background in Computer Science, Philosophy, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
• Strong analytical abilities and experience formalizing complex problems.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Motivation to work on cutting‑edge research in an industrial setting.

Required skills

• Answer Set Programming (or willingness to learn).
• Logic Programming concepts.
