Plasma Edge Transport Physicist

About the role

Proxima Fusion is seeking a Plasma Edge Transport Physicist to help shape the architecture of the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant. You will work on the physics that governs plasma edge and exhaust in a complex 3‑D magnetic topology, directly influencing hardware design decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Advance edge transport physics models, including turbulent transport, drift effects, and impurity migration.
• Apply theoretical and computational models to design divertor, baffling, and first‑wall geometry.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (plasma physics, magnets, cryogenics, manufacturing, controls) to resolve trade‑offs.
• Contribute to reactor‑scale hardware decisions and European fusion initiatives.

Required profile

• PhD or equivalent experience in plasma physics or related field.
• Strong background in stellarator edge physics and transport phenomena.
• Experience with high‑performance computational modeling of plasma‑wall interactions.
• Ability to work in a fast‑moving, interdisciplinary environment.
