Research Fellow in Geochemistry & Economic Geology

About the role

The Chair of Geochemistry and Economic Geology seeks a motivated Research Fellow to strengthen its research team. You will work on hydrothermal ore deposits, geothermal system geochemistry, mine‑waste re‑mining, pollutant dynamics and liquid mining.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct field‑ and laboratory‑based research in at least one of the core focus areas.
• Publish results in international peer‑reviewed journals and present at scientific meetings.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in geochemistry or economic geology (German language after two years).
• Develop an independent research portfolio, supervise PhD, Master and undergraduate students, and potentially lead the stable isotope laboratory.
• Foster multidisciplinary collaborations nationally and internationally and apply for public and industry research grants.

Required profile

• MSc and PhD (or equivalent) in geosciences or a related discipline.
• Proven record of high‑quality publications.
• Teaching experience at university level.
• Strong interdisciplinary and international teamwork skills with excellent communication.
• Preferably some experience in project acquisition and grant writing.

Required skills

• Experience with excimer laser systems.
• Operation of sector‑field and quadrupole ICP‑MS instruments.
• Use of ICP‑OES, X‑ray diffraction (XRD), X‑ray fluorescence (XRF), SEM‑EDX and electron microprobe.
• Stable and clumped isotope analytics, preferably stable isotope geochemistry.
