Senior Accountant / Buchhalter (m/f/d)

About the role

Inkitt is looking for a Senior Accountant/Buchhalter to lead German accounting operations. You will ensure accurate bookkeeping, compliance, and reporting while supporting a fast‑moving startup environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support day‑to‑day German accounting tasks, including journal entries, accruals, prepaids, payroll, and intercompany postings.
• Partner with external accounting providers and review their deliverables.
• Drive month‑end close processes, bank, AP/AR reconciliations, and ensure clean documentation.
• Manage compliance with German payroll tax, statutory reporting, VAT, OSS, corporate and trade tax.
• Prepare German GAAP year‑end reports and liaise with auditors.
• Act as the primary point of contact for limited office operations.

Required profile

• 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a startup or scale‑up.
• Strong knowledge of German GAAP and SKR 03 or SKR 04 chart of accounts.
• Fluent German (C1) and solid English (B2‑C1) communication skills.
• Comfortable working in ambiguous environments and building processes from scratch.

Required skills

• DATEV accounting system.
• Advanced Excel.
• Experience with ERP/ accounting software such as NetSuite, Everest or QuickBooks.
• Hands‑on knowledge of German payroll, VAT, OSS and corporate tax compliance.
