Senior Applied Scientist - Demand Forecast

About the role

Zalando's Partner Tech Applied Science team builds products that give partners better demand signals, so that its assortment stays relevant and respects customer privacy. As a Senior Applied Scientist you will work with product managers, engineers and analysts to refine the company's article demand forecast engine, co-own the scientific roadmap for the forecast domain and move beyond simple metrics toward true incremental value.

Key responsibilities

• Conceptualize, prototype and productionize state-of-the-art demand forecast solutions
• Own the whole development cycle of algorithms, from opportunity discovery to production
• Iteratively improve models and explore new data sources and problem structures
• Build model pipelines and streamline analysis processes with common programming tools
• Mentor junior scientists and share knowledge within the team

Required profile

• Degree in statistics, mathematics, physics, operations research or a related quantitative discipline, with a strong theoretical foundation in statistics, time series analysis and forecasting machine learning
• 5+ years of industry experience (3+ for PhD) developing forecasting models with statistical and machine learning methods
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proactive and able to unblock yourself or ask for support

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of forecasting best practice, with a bias for simplicity
• Proficiency in Python, SQL and PySpark, with high coding standards and active participation in code reviews
• Preferred: demonstrated leadership experience mentoring less experienced colleagues
