Senior Financial Accountant (f/m/d) – Berlin/Brandenburg

About the role

As a Senior Financial Accountant you will join hygraph’s Finance Team in Berlin, reporting to the VP of Finance & Legal. You will drive the continuous improvement of accounting processes, lead automation projects, and collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams on invoicing, expenses, and debt collection.

Key responsibilities

• Record monthly journal entries in accordance with German GAAP/HGB, covering AP, AR, and general ledger.
• Maintain master data, reconcile accounts, and manage AP/AR balances.
• Own the DATEV general ledger infrastructure, optimise DATEV Unternehmen Online workflows, and oversee automated transaction pipelines.
• Execute monthly closing activities, including provisions, accruals, and deferrals.
• Prepare annual financial statements with tax advisors and support year‑end closing.
• Coordinate the annual audit and act as the primary contact for accounting queries.
• Handle VAT, EC Sales List (ZM), and OSS tax filings.
• Design and implement new accounting processes and automation initiatives, leveraging AI tools where appropriate.
• Collaborate with FP&A and Financial Controlling for reporting and ad‑hoc projects.

Required profile

• 5+ years of financial accounting experience, strong focus on monthly closing and German HGB standards.
• Proven expertise with DATEV and experience automating accounting workflows.
• Ability to design and monitor complex internal control systems.
• Fluent German and proficient English, capable of liaising with FP&A and external advisors.
• Startup or fast‑paced environment experience is a plus.
