Senior Project Manager – Renewable Synthetic Fuels Development

About the role

Solarbelt, the renewable‑fuel arm of the non‑profit climate organisation atmosfair, is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead the origination and development of next‑generation renewable synthetic fuel projects in developing countries. Based in Berlin, you will drive the creation of e‑methanol, bio‑methanol and sustainable aviation and maritime fuel plants from concept through to operation.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and engage project owners, co‑investors and operators in target regions for renewable fuel plants.
• Structure projects across technical, environmental and commercial dimensions, covering feedstock supply to fuel logistics.
• Coordinate with technology providers, EPC contractors and local developers to define plant design and estimate CAPEX and OPEX.
• Develop business cases using techno‑economic models (LCO, DCF, IRR) to assess viability.
• Advance projects from pre‑feasibility to detailed engineering and implementation.
• Prepare presentations and documentation for investors, funding bodies, ministries and regulators.
• Support funding applications, certification, offtake and commercialisation strategies.
• Represent Solarbelt at international conferences and during site visits.

Required profile

• University degree in engineering, natural sciences, economics or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in project development or engineering within renewable energy, chemicals or oil & gas, preferably focused on renewable fuels.
• Hands‑on experience across the full project lifecycle, including concept, feasibility, pre‑FEED/FEED, procurement, construction and commissioning.

Required skills

• Techno‑economic modelling (LCO, DCF, IRR).
• CAPEX and OPEX estimation for electrolysis, CO₂ capture and synthesis units.
• Project lifecycle management from concept to commissioning.
• Collaboration with EPC contractors and technology providers.
