Senior Software Engineer - AI Experience EU/UK remote (m/f/d)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Pliant’s AI Experience team. You will work at the intersection of software engineering, product thinking and applied AI, building AI‑powered product experiences for finance and spend management. The role involves both prototyping new finance copilot features and turning promising AI capabilities into reliable production systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build AI‑driven chat experiences, copilots, autonomous workflows and internal AI tools that solve real customer problems.
• Integrate large language models with structured financial data, APIs and business logic, including retrieval systems such as vector search, hybrid retrieval and text‑to‑SQL.
• Implement observability, guardrails and quality monitoring to ensure production‑grade reliability.
• Create evaluation frameworks to measure the impact of AI features on accuracy, latency, cost and user trust.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and engineers to shape product direction and raise the AI engineering bar across the company.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven track record of shipping AI‑powered products or features into production.
• Comfort with ambiguity and ability to decide when AI adds value versus traditional software solutions.
• Strong communication skills and experience working in cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Java (Spring Boot) and/or Python.
• Distributed architecture patterns and cloud infrastructure (Terraform a plus).
• Experience with LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex or LangGraph.
• Hands‑on knowledge of LLM interaction patterns: tool calling, memory, structured outputs, retrieval‑augmented generation, embeddings, agentic loops and evaluation.
