Software Engineer – AI Defence Systems

About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join Helsing’s European AI defence team. You will help build AI‑driven capabilities that enable semi‑autonomous platforms to perceive, navigate and act in real‑time under demanding technical constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Review code contributions, proposals and RFCs from colleagues and unblock their progress.
• Design, implement and ship new features, algorithms, infrastructure components or full products across the stack.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across teams.
• Collaborate on solving challenges in distributed systems, embedded computing, robotics, networking, deployment infrastructure, security and machine learning.

Required profile

• Mission‑driven mindset with a strong interest in defence‑related AI applications.
• Ability to work on complex, safety‑critical software that operates in changing environments.
• Collaborative attitude and willingness to speak up about missed opportunities.
