Software Engineer – Databases as a Service (all genders)

About the role

Join the team that powers Zalando's internal PostgreSQL-as-a-Service platform. You will help thousands of engineers across Europe provision, manage, and monitor production‑grade databases with zero manual effort.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate the automation layer that provisions, fails over, self‑heals, and manages the lifecycle of hundreds of PostgreSQL clusters on Kubernetes.
• Develop self‑service interfaces – APIs, CLIs, and internal tooling – enabling engineers to spin up databases without tickets.
• Own end‑to‑end observability: define SLOs, implement actionable alerting, and participate in game‑day exercises.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability of the platform.

Required profile

• Strong background in building and operating large‑scale platform services.
• Deep expertise with PostgreSQL and experience running it in containerised environments.
• Proven ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment serving many internal customers.
