Software Engineer – TV (JavaScript)

About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to develop and maintain JavaScript‑based frameworks and SDKs that run on Smart TV, HbbTV, Connected TV and DVB devices. You will join smartclip’s ad‑tech team in Germany and help bring advertising solutions to a wide range of television platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Extend JavaScript code beyond the browser to run on Smart TV, HbbTV, CTV and DVB hardware.
• Design, implement and optimise reusable frameworks and SDKs for multiple device ecosystems.
• Write comprehensive automated tests using Mocha, Supertest, Puppeteer or Playwright.
• Investigate and resolve bugs that appear on real TV manufacturers’ devices.
• Collaborate with the team to own tickets from conception to delivery without micromanagement.
• Participate in hackathons, conferences and community events to stay at the cutting edge.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Fluent in English and German.
• Self‑motivated, comfortable working autonomously and taking full responsibility for deliverables.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of VanillaJS (ES3‑ES5) and modern TypeScript.
• Experience with Node.js development.
• Proficiency with testing frameworks such as Mocha, Supertest, Puppeteer or Playwright.
• Comfortable using Git for version control.
• Familiarity with Smart TV, HbbTV, CTV and DVB platforms.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, Grafana, Graylog and Apache Spark is a plus.
