Accountant – Federal Finance & Accounting Service

About the role

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service is seeking a qualified Accountant to provide professional accounting advice, ensure compliance with GAAP, and support the financial integrity of federal programs. This position involves analyzing transactions, monitoring internal controls, and contributing to the overall financial health of the organization.

Key responsibilities

• Provide accounting advice and assistance in applying generally accepted accounting principles, policies, and procedures.
• Review, analyze, and modify operating programs related to receiving, controlling, validating, and recording financial data.
• Report accounting transactions affecting assets, liabilities, revenues, expenses, and budgetary accounts.
• Assist in establishing and monitoring internal controls to identify problem areas and improve program effectiveness.
• Apply knowledge of automated data processing systems to resolve accounting system issues.
• Perform special audits, studies, and analyses to evaluate financial health using balanced scorecard indicators.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or national with ability to obtain a security clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with at least 24 semester hours in accounting (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Minimum of 4 years of accounting experience or a CPA/CIA certification.
• Eligibility for Federal employment, including registration for Selective Service (if applicable).
