Principal Engineer – Control & Protection Systems (VSC)

About the role

We are looking for a highly experienced Principal Engineer to lead the design, development and implementation of advanced Voltage Source Converter (VSC) control strategies and protection schemes for HVDC, LCC and renewable energy systems. The role combines technical leadership with mentorship across multi‑disciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee end‑to‑end technical solutions for HVDC control and protection, ensuring customer requirements are met.
• Lead requirements gathering, system design, configuration, validation and integration of control & protection systems.
• Participate in Patent Evaluation Board activities and represent the business at conferences and standards bodies (IEC, CIGRE).
• Define control philosophies, protection logics, interlocking and data exchange configurations.
• Conduct electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies, SIL testing, dynamic performance and protection coordination analyses.
• Develop full plant models and validate across multiple simulation platforms (PSCAD, EMTP‑RV, MATLAB/Simulink, PSSE, RSCAD).
• Provide technical mentorship, recruit and develop engineering talent, and support succession planning.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or a related field.
• Extensive experience in VSC control, HVDC systems and power system protection.
• Proven track record of leading complex engineering projects and multidisciplinary teams.
