Director of Architecture – Lead Design & Practice in Germany

About the role

AECOM is seeking a seasoned Director of Architecture to shape and grow its architectural practice across Germany. This senior leadership position combines strategic direction, hands‑on design leadership, and market development to deliver high‑quality infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the strategic direction of the architecture practice in Germany, aligning business priorities with measurable outcomes.
• Build, mentor, and lead high‑performing multidisciplinary teams across multiple offices.
• Lead architectural design delivery for projects covering HOAI phases 1–6, from concept through construction support.
• Establish design standards, technical governance, and quality assurance processes.
• Develop and maintain trusted relationships with clients, developers, public authorities, and strategic partners.
• Drive market expansion, identify new business opportunities, and develop future leaders within the practice.

Required profile

• Design‑led architect with extensive hands‑on experience delivering projects in Germany under the HOAI framework.
• Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and overseeing full project lifecycles.
• Strong technical accountability and the authority to approve design decisions.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to build client trust.
