Foreign Languages Secretary – Scientific Service Team

About the role

We are looking for a motivated foreign‑languages secretary to join the Department of Biogeochemical Integration at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry in Jena. The role is part‑time (17.2 hours per week) and starts as soon as possible, supporting scientific and administrative teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing and executing international symposia, workshops, conferences, training courses and lectures.
• Arrange business trips – travel planning, booking and preparation of expense reports for national and international guests.
• Handle oral and written communication in English and German with researchers, partners and public offices.
• Provide general office administration, scheduling, task coordination and support for international staff and visitors.

Required profile

• Completed training as a foreign‑language secretary or comparable qualification.
• Excellent organizational skills, high self‑motivation and team spirit.
• Fluent written and spoken English and German.
• Reliability, strong sense of responsibility and willingness to learn new competencies.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
