Magnet Scientist

About the role

We are looking for an ambitious Magnet Scientist to lead the fabrication and engineering of next‑generation magnetic materials. This lab‑first, execution‑driven position bridges AI‑predicted material designs with real‑world synthesis, turning promising alloys into high‑performance magnets.

Key responsibilities

• Perform experimental synthesis using physical vapor deposition, melt growth, flux growth, and arc‑melting.
• Design and execute heat‑treatment, annealing, and processing routes to control grain size, texture, and phase distribution.
• Engineer coercivity, remanence, and temperature stability through precise microstructure design.
• Develop scale‑up routes from ingot to powder to bulk magnets, including sintering or hot pressing.
• Conduct X‑ray structure determination, spectroscopy, and magnetic characterization (VSM/PPMS).
• Analyze hysteresis loops, domain behavior, reversal mechanisms, and magnetic anisotropy to provide feedback to the AI team.

Required profile

• PhD or MSc in Physics, Materials Science, Metallurgy, or Chemistry with at least 5 years of hands‑on experience.
• Expertise in synthesis and fabrication of inorganic crystals, especially permanent magnets or functional intermetallics.
• Proven experience in microstructure design and studying structure‑property relationships.
• Proficiency with magnetic characterization tools such as PPMS or VSM.
