Mechanical Design Engineer – Principal / Associate Director

About the role

Black & White Engineering is expanding its Frankfurt office and is looking for senior mechanical design specialists to join its data‑centre practice. You will work on Europe’s most ambitious hyperscale and colocation projects, shaping cooling, HVAC and resilience strategies from concept through commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Design and lead mechanical systems for data‑centre projects, including cooling architectures, chilled‑water networks and HVAC solutions.
• Own the mechanical scope on complex assignments, ensuring technical excellence and client satisfaction.
• Mentor junior engineers (Principal level) or set mechanical strategy across multiple projects and lead senior design reviews (Associate Director level).
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and act as a trusted technical advisor to global clients.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in mechanical building services for mission‑critical environments such as data centres, healthcare or high‑tech manufacturing.
• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and energy modelling.
• Chartered status (CIBSE, IMechE or equivalent) is preferred.
• Fluent business‑level English; German is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Revit.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Experience using IES VE or comparable energy‑analysis tools.
• Experience with CFD simulation tools.
