Senior Buyer – Munich (Permanent)

About the role

MERMEC Deutschland, a specialist in advanced railway signalling and digitalisation, is looking for a Senior Buyer to join its Bid & Turnkey Purchasing team in Munich. The role supports the preparation of tenders and the execution of turnkey projects across the DACH region, ensuring that purchasing activities align with project goals and corporate standards.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and gather requirements from internal departments.
• Define purchasing strategies for ongoing projects.
• Source, qualify and manage potential suppliers.
• Organise technical discussions, obtain and evaluate bids, and qualify them both technically and commercially.
• Identify risks, draft contractual frameworks, negotiate with suppliers and prepare contracts.
• Act as the purchasing contact for tender responses, coordinate information collection and summarise documentation for Tendering and Supply Chain teams.
• Report progress, discuss strategy with managers and resolve supplier issues in collaboration with other departments.
• Ensure project objectives (quality, cost, delivery, HSE) are met.

Required profile

• Purchasing Engineer or Master’s degree in Purchasing.
• Minimum 5 years of purchasing experience, preferably in turnkey projects.
• Strong interest in technology and ability to understand technical aspects of purchased items.
• In‑depth knowledge of purchasing, supply‑chain and production best practices.
• Experience in the railway or industrial sector is a plus.
• Fluent in English and German.
• Professional, proactive attitude with good communication skills.
• Willingness to travel 1–5 trips per year (approximately three working days each).
