Senior Computer Vision Engineer - Localization

About the role

Join SE3 Labs as a Senior Computer Vision Engineer focusing on localization. You will own the spatial state‑estimation layer of our autonomy platform, building perception systems that enable drones to understand their position and surroundings in challenging conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deploy robust visual‑inertial odometry, SLAM, and sensor‑fusion pipelines for UAVs and other robotics systems.
• Optimize perception pipelines for onboard compute (e.g., Nvidia Jetson) and ensure real‑time performance.
• Design calibration, timing, and synchronization workflows and maintain mapping, loop‑closure, and re‑localization capabilities.
• Build replayable log pipelines, evaluation datasets, and automated regression tests to validate localization accuracy and robustness.
• Mentor engineers, review architecture, and define the long‑term perception roadmap.

Required profile

• Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Robotics, Computer Vision, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• Several years of hands‑on experience building perception, SLAM, VIO, or sensor‑fusion systems for real‑world robotics, drones, AR/VR, or autonomous vehicles.
• Strong foundation in 3D geometry, linear algebra, probability, estimation theory, optimization, and real‑time robotics.
• Fluent English; German is a plus. Eligible to work on defence‑related projects and obtain security clearance if required.

Required skills

• C++ (Linux production code)
• Python for analysis and tooling
• Experience with EKF, factor graphs, nonlinear least squares, bundle adjustment, visual odometry, inertial navigation, calibration, multi‑sensor fusion
• Knowledge of sensor hardware (cameras, IMUs, magnetometers, barometers) and timing issues
