Advisor for Breaking Patterns of Armed Violence (PAVE)

About the role

The Bonn International Centre for Conflict Studies seeks an Advisor to lead its Breaking Patterns of Armed Violence (PAVE) project. This full‑time, fixed‑term position (until 31 October 2027) supports evidence‑based disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) initiatives across Africa, working closely with the African Union, the United Nations Peacebuilding Office and regional organisations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement research and policy advice to prevent and reduce armed group violence in African contexts.
• Coordinate DDR processes with the African Union, UN Peacebuilding Office and regional bodies such as the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
• Produce analytical reports, briefing papers and recommendations for stakeholders.
• Facilitate knowledge exchange between local partners, international agencies and academic networks.
• Monitor and evaluate project outcomes against evidence‑based indicators.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in conflict studies, peacebuilding, international relations, political science or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in DDR programmes, conflict research, or policy advisory work.
• Strong analytical abilities and experience working with multilateral organisations.
• Fluent English; German proficiency is an advantage.
