Engineering Manager

About the role

cargo.one is building an AI‑native operating system for multimodal freight. As Engineering Manager you will lead a team that works side‑by‑side with AI agents to ship high‑quality software, grow engineers, and shape the future of AI‑led engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Own delivery: define what ships, ensure quality, and keep commitments.
• Grow the people: conduct meaningful one‑to‑ones, performance conversations and career path planning.
• Hire: set hiring bar, run recruitment loops and onboard senior engineers.
• Partner with Product: co‑own roadmap, negotiate scope and protect engineers from low‑value churn.
• Raise the team’s AI capability: help engineers use AI agents effectively and evolve toward autonomous agent fleets.
• Stay technical: spend roughly a day a week reviewing code and maintaining technical credibility.
• Engage with customers: sit with freight forwarders and airlines, bringing engineers into real‑world problem solving.

Required profile

• Passionate about growing people, giving early hard feedback and running real one‑to‑ones.
• System‑thinking mindset; can spot delivery slippage and improve processes.
• Business‑oriented: understand the value of engineering work for customers and can communicate it.
• Collaborative with Product, treating engineering and product as equal partners.
• Comfortable speaking with customers directly, especially freight forwarders and airlines.
• Fluent English (near‑native) for written and spoken communication.
• Proven experience managing engineers, hiring, performance management and predictable delivery.
• Backend engineering background with strong architecture instincts and technical credibility.
• Hands‑on experience with AI‑led engineering workflows.
