Fisheries Scientist – Recreational Fisheries (Fixed‑Term)

About the role

The Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries seeks a motivated fisheries scientist to lead a project on the effectiveness of live sonar echosounding for recreational anglers targeting zander and pike in deep lakes.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and conduct boat angling experiments on lakes in Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern.
• Recruit, train and coordinate experimental anglers, technicians and student assistants.
• Perform statistical analysis, data visualization and prepare scientific publications.
• Write project reports in German and present results to scientific and public audiences.
• Manage project administration, budgeting and coordination tasks.

Required profile

• M.Sc. in fisheries, biology, environmental science or a related discipline.
• Experience organising field teams and conducting prolonged outdoor work.
• Advanced German and English communication skills (C1 or higher).
• German fishing licence and driver’s licence; boat licence preferred.
• Personal experience with recreational predator angling.

Required skills

• Advanced statistical analysis, preferably using R.
