Group Lead Compliance & Indirect Tax

About the role

You will lead the German tax compliance function for both direct and indirect taxes within BASF Agricultural Solutions. The role ensures timely, accurate tax filings, payments, and reporting while supporting the company’s transformation into an independent agricultural business.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, review and submit all German tax filings (corporate income tax, trade tax, withholding tax, VAT).
• Oversee tax payments, tax accounts, reconciliations and reporting interfaces to statutory and management reporting.
• Own the German tax compliance calendar and ensure all filing deadlines are met.
• Coordinate work with internal teams, shared service centers and external advisors, collaborating closely with Finance, Accounting, Controlling, Legal and business units.
• Establish and maintain an effective German tax control framework and manage tax audits, authority requests and controversy matters.
• Translate regulatory changes into operational requirements, drive automation and standardisation, and support transactions and reorganisations.
• Communicate compliance status, risks and mitigation actions to senior management.

Required profile

• University degree in tax, accounting, law, business administration or a comparable field.
• Qualification as a Steuerberater (preferred).
• Several years of professional experience in German direct and indirect tax, preferably in a multinational corporate environment or leading advisory firm.

Required skills

• Strong technical expertise in German corporate income tax, trade tax, withholding tax and VAT.
• Experience with ERP systems and tax technology solutions.
