IT Support Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced, service-oriented IT Support Engineer to join the Desktop Support team at EMBL Headquarters in Heidelberg. The role provides first-level desktop support for a diverse, international user community across macOS, Windows, Linux and mobile platforms, while contributing to the continuous improvement of our IT services.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver professional desktop support for macOS, Windows, Linux and mobile devices.
• Manage system and software deployments using enterprise tools such as Microsoft SCCM and JAMF Pro.
• Configure and maintain user environments, including accounts, network access, printing and email services.
• Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues across supported platforms.
• Provide responsive help-desk service, track and document support requests following IT service-management best practices.
• Participate in the maintenance of IT training environments for the EMBL Advanced Training Centre.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in an IT support environment.
• Degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting and organisational skills.
• Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with macOS, Windows and Linux desktop and mobile platforms.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange and Microsoft 365 services.
• Experience with enterprise deployment tools: Microsoft SCCM and JAMF Pro.
• Knowledge of virtualization and VDI technologies such as VMware Horizon.
