Ratings Associate - Financial Institutions (German Speaker)

About the role

Moody's is hiring a Ratings Associate for its Financial Institutions Group (Insurance and Banking) in Frankfurt, Germany. The role supports credit rating and research activities across international markets, working closely with experienced analysts in each sector. It sits at the intersection of banking and insurance, with exposure to both sectors from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Support Credit Rating Analysts in the analysis, assignment and monitoring of credit ratings for banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions
• Analyse financial statements, regulatory filings, capital adequacy, asset quality, earnings, liquidity, funding profiles and risk management frameworks of banking and insurance issuers
• Evaluate business models, competitive positioning, regulatory environments and industry developments
• Prepare and maintain financial models, forecasts, peer comparisons and analytical presentations
• Draft rating committee materials and take part in rating committee discussions according to Moody's methodologies
• Draft and support the publication of credit research, sector reports, rating opinions and market commentary
• Monitor economic conditions, regulatory developments and market trends affecting credit profiles
• Attend meetings with banks, insurers, investors and regulators, using digital and AI-enabled tools to improve analytical efficiency

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or Master's degree (preferred) in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Mathematics or a related field
• Fluency in German is required; excellent English and German, with Spanish preferred
• Availability to start as soon as possible

Required skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with good accounting, financial analysis and corporate finance knowledge
• Understanding of banking and insurance business models, capital markets or credit risk analysis
• Familiarity with Basel III and Solvency II is a strong advantage
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint; data analytics or visualization tools preferred
• Demonstrated proficiency in AI concepts and hands-on experience applying AI tools to workflows
