Drone Field Engineer

About the role

As a Drone Field Engineer at Helsing, you will help mature cutting‑edge military AI products from proof‑of‑concept to large‑scale deployment. You will work closely with software and AI engineers, product managers, and end users to test integrated hardware‑software solutions in both lab and operational environments.

Key responsibilities

• Test combined software and hardware drone systems end‑to‑end in the lab and in the field, including flight operations.
• Pack, transport, set up, and dismantle equipment at test locations such as airfields.
• Install AI software on edge computing devices using in‑house deployment tools.
• Design and improve test plans, safety standard operating procedures, and resource requirements.
• Procure hardware, trial new inventory‑management tools, establish secure storage, and prepare safety cases for aviation authorities.
• Advise on training course design and in‑service support procedures.
• Travel to testing sites across the UK, France, Germany, and other locations as needed.

Required profile

• Strong technical aptitude with curiosity to understand complex hardware and software systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and stakeholder interaction.
• Proactive problem‑solver capable of owning critical workstreams and driving solutions independently.
• Passion for defending liberal democratic values through responsible AI and defence technology.
