R&D Mechanical Engineer – Semiconductor Industry

About the role

As an R&D Mechanical Engineer you will apply your strong foundation in physics, mathematics and materials science to solve mechanical challenges in the semiconductor and display equipment space. You will design, develop and modify mechanical tooling, layouts and specifications, supporting the full product life‑cycle from concept to release.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design projects from concept through product release.
• Develop designs optimized for manufacturability and cost efficiency.
• Apply advanced GD&T principles and perform tolerance stack‑up analyses.
• Collaborate with vendors and manufacturing teams to ensure design feasibility, quality and cost effectiveness.
• Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD tools.
• Support prototype development, testing and incorporate feedback into design iterations.
• Participate in design reviews and cross‑functional team meetings.
• Maintain documentation and ensure compliance with engineering standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of combined practical and theoretical experience in mechanical design and manufacturing.
• Strong expertise in precision machining and a wide range of processes (turning, milling, welding, electro‑erosion, polishing, etc.).
• Proven experience in design for manufacturability and cost optimisation.
• Excellent knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Hands‑on experience in high‑tech manufacturing environments involving precision mechanics.
• Demonstrated success in vendor collaboration and delivering projects to product release.
• Fluent English and good proficiency in German.
