Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer – Semiconductor Industry

About the role

As a Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer you will apply deep knowledge of physics, mathematics and materials science to solve complex mechanical challenges in semiconductor equipment. You will lead the design of high‑precision components, select optimal materials, and ensure manufacturability throughout the product life‑cycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of high‑precision components and assemblies, guaranteeing functionality, reliability and long‑term performance.
• Act as the materials authority, evaluating metals, alloys, composites, polymers and coatings for demanding environments such as vacuum and thermal loads.
• Own decisions on materials, finishes, tolerances and critical dimensions, applying GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers and quality teams to optimise cost, manufacturability and design robustness.
• Mentor junior engineers on DFM, machining practices and engineering standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in high‑precision mechanical design, preferably in semiconductor, optics, aerospace or robotics.
• Proven expertise in materials behavior, precision machining and tolerance analysis.
• Hands‑on shop‑floor experience with machining, metrology or assembly environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Creo.
• Strong knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Experience with precision machining, tooling and DFM principles.
• Familiarity with coating technologies, heat‑treatment processes and material performance testing.
• Basic simulation skills (FEA/thermal) are a plus.
