Battery System Engineer/Architect – UAVs

About the role

Stark is seeking a Battery System Engineer/Architect to lead the design and integration of high‑performance battery packs for unmanned aerial vehicles. You will work in a fast‑paced defence technology environment, optimizing size, weight, and power while ensuring safety and reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead architectural design of bespoke UAV battery packs meeting high‑discharge and weight constraints.
• Define and integrate Battery Management System (BMS) requirements, including SOC/SOH algorithms, cell balancing, and fault protection.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers on lightweight enclosures and thermal mitigation strategies.
• Develop and execute test plans for cells, modules, and packs, covering thermal runaway, vibration, drop, and environmental testing.
• Ensure compliance with international safety and transport standards such as UN 38.3.
• Support transition from prototype to mass production with supply‑chain and contract manufacturers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in battery system design, preferably in aerospace, automotive (EV) or consumer electronics.
• Strong understanding of lithium‑based chemistries, failure modes, and degradation mechanisms.
