Mechanical Design Engineer – Fusion Stellarator

About the role

Proxima Fusion is building the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant. As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will help design, analyse and validate the mechanical, structural and thermal aspects of the Alpha stellarator, turning cutting‑edge science into hardware.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed mechanical designs for major systems of the Alpha stellarator and ensure integration with physics, structural and cryogenic subsystems.
• Perform thermal and structural analyses, assess design performance and implement improvements.
• Conduct technology trade‑offs, material selections and feasibility studies to support the net‑energy stellarator concept.
• Design, prototype, verify and support manufacturing processes for components, assemblies and tooling.
• Collaborate with external partners, suppliers and internal teams to bring designs to production.

Required profile

• Strong engineering mindset with focus on robust mechanical, structural and thermal performance.
• Experience working on complex, multidisciplinary projects involving physics, magnets and cryogenics.
• Ability to work closely with external collaborators and suppliers.
