Physicist/Engineer – Particle Beam Technology for Semiconductor

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a physicist or engineer (m/f/d) to join its R&D team for the development and testing of next‑generation electron beam columns used in semiconductor inspection and metrology.

Key responsibilities

• Develop novel particle‑beam systems that meet high‑end technical requirements for semiconductor inspection and metrology.
• Define system requirements, specifications and troubleshoot problems.
• Plan and conduct tests of new technologies on laboratory prototypes.
• Collect and analyse data, design statistically valid experiments.
• Guide less‑experienced physicists and scientists.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and pursue innovative solutions in close cooperation with an international multidisciplinary R&D team.

Required profile

• Scientific or technical degree, preferably a doctorate in physics, physical technology, optics or a comparable discipline.
• Practical experience in designing, constructing and operating particle‑beam systems.
• Systematic, analytical and goal‑oriented working style with flexibility for interdisciplinary collaboration.

Required skills

• Particle‑beam system design and operation.
• Electron microscopy (SEM/TEM) and electron optics.
• High‑vacuum and high‑voltage technology.
• Data collection, analysis and statistical experiment design.
• Ability to work in a high‑performing, multidisciplinary team.
