Purchasing Manager – Build-to-Print (BTP) Components & Vacuum Technology

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions, is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead the Build‑to‑Print (BTP) components and vacuum technology procurement function. Based in Alzenau, Germany, you will ensure material availability, manage supplier relationships, and drive cost‑effective sourcing for advanced semiconductor equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide disciplinary and functional leadership to the BTP purchasing organization, developing team capabilities and succession planning.
• Support selection, development, and performance management of strategic suppliers, ensuring on‑time material availability while mitigating supply‑chain risks.
• Lead procurement activities for product development, new‑product introduction, and industrialization projects.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, manufacturing, quality, and program management to achieve business objectives.
• Drive cost‑reduction, process‑improvement, and digitalisation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Supply Chain Management.
• 12+ years of procurement experience in a highly technical manufacturing environment, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Experience in vacuum technology or high‑tech equipment manufacturing.
• Fluent in English and German (written and spoken).

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of engineering drawings, tolerances, materials and manufacturing processes.
• Hands‑on experience with high‑vacuum (HV/UHV) and vacuum components.
• Ability to conduct technical discussions with suppliers and internal teams.
