Senior Director, R&D – E‑Beam Technology

About the role

Applied Materials is seeking a Senior Director of Research & Development to lead innovation in electron‑beam (E‑beam) technologies. This senior leadership position is responsible for the full development cycle of next‑generation E‑beam systems, shaping long‑term technology strategy and building a high‑performing R&D organization.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the technical authority for E‑beam technologies, overseeing design and optimization of column architecture, electron optics, lens systems and beam control to achieve sub‑nanometer resolution.
• Define and execute the technology roadmap, driving development of next‑generation platforms that improve performance, precision and throughput.
• Lead and scale a state‑of‑the‑art R&D organization, mentoring leaders, fostering a culture of innovation and ensuring cross‑functional alignment with engineering, product and commercial teams.
• Deliver complex R&D programs on time and within budget, translating advanced research into scalable, differentiated products.

Required profile

• PhD or advanced degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of R&D leadership experience with a proven track record of delivering innovative semiconductor or metrology products.
• Demonstrated ability to operate in a global, matrixed environment and to build high‑performing technical teams.
