Senior Physicist – Semiconductor eBeam Technology

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and engineering, is seeking a Senior Physicist to drive innovation in electron‑beam column technology for the semiconductor industry. You will help shape the long‑term eBeam roadmap, develop concepts, and advance scientific foundations for next‑generation process‑control tools.

Key responsibilities

• Develop concepts and technological foundations for next‑generation eBeam systems.
• Integrate emerging technologies to enhance eBeam product performance.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the eBeam technology roadmap.
• Analyze and optimise electron optical systems using advanced simulation and mathematical modelling.
• Conduct feasibility studies, prototypes, and experimental testing in lab or cleanroom environments.
• Lead cross‑functional development projects and manage collaborations with industry partners and academic institutions.
• Evaluate research trends to identify opportunities and risks, and support IP and patent coordination.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (PhD or MSc) in physics, electrical engineering, materials science or related field.
• Experience in simulation, numerical modelling and strong programming skills (e.g., Python or MATLAB).
• Deep knowledge of particle‑beam system development, including electron optics, high‑voltage systems, vacuum technology and emitter technologies.
• Demonstrated experience in complex system development from design to testing.
• Fluent English; intermediate German is a plus.
