Stellarator Systems Architect

About the role

Proxima Fusion is building the world’s first commercial stellarator fusion power plant. As a Stellarator Systems Architect you will shape the overall architecture of the Alpha machine, ensuring that plasma, magnets, cryogenics, structures and heating systems work together as a coherent, high‑performance system.

Key responsibilities

• Define system‑level architecture decisions that meet top‑level mission requirements while supporting rapid detailed engineering work.
• Integrate feedback from subsystems (plasma physics, magnets, cryogenics, controls, manufacturing) into the overall design loop.
• Identify and quantify major model uncertainties, allocating margin where it adds the most value.
• Use first‑principles estimates and reduced models to evaluate design trade‑offs and guide engineering priorities.
• Own the coherence and performance of the Alpha concept, ensuring it resolves into an elegant, efficient design.

Required profile

• Proven experience in complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects, preferably in fusion or high‑energy physics.
• Strong systems thinking with the ability to balance competing technical constraints.
• Excellent judgment for fast‑moving environments and a track record of delivering pragmatic solutions.
